Shawshank State Penitentiary

In 1995, the prison was purchased by the Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society and turned into a museum.

This space offers much more than just the filming location for one of the greatest movies of all time, it also serves as a reminder of what real prison life was like in the Buckeye State.

Brooks’ Bench

The Brewer

Mansfield, USA

The town into which the elderly, institutionalised Brooks is released is Mansfield itself. The ‘Brewer’, the halfway house where he carves ‘Brooks was here’ into the beams, is the Haunted Bissman Building, 193 North Main Street.

Built in 1887 as HQ of the Bissman grocery company, the now-disused building is supposedly inhabited by mysterious spirits, and you can participate in regular paranormal investigations.
